The Frederick County Outdoor School provides a 2 day field study (non residential) of the watersheds in Frederick County as an immersive experience that complements the Ecosystems unit taught in the sixth grade home school science class. Students observe a variety of plants and animals that are found in our forest and wetlands ecosystems. They discover the importance of biodiversity to the Potomac River Watershed, and ultimately how it affects their community and the Chesapeake Bay.

Outdoor School staff will schedule dates with middle schools and 6th grade Science teachers for the Outdoor School experience for 2024-2025.
Past - Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 (September 2020 to January 2021) Outdoor School used a combination of remote teaching tools to bring outdoor and environmental education to 6th grade students. Students will evaluate ways to monitor, maintain, and improve biodiversity in Frederick County.
